Arizona Paternity Services » Preparation of Petitions to Establish Paternity ESTABLISHMENT OF PATERNITY In many situations such as when the parents of a minor child were never married, for example, paternity must be established by the Court before any other steps can be taken. In many cases, one party or the other, for various reasons, may refuse to submit to the necessary tests, etc. In this case, the court must order that party to take the necessary steps to establish such paternity.
Once paternity has been legally established, the courts can begin to work with the parties to establish child custody and visitation. Both father and mother have legal rights to both custody and visitation, etc., however, if they cannot come to some sort of agreement, the courts will do it for them, and then usually review the matter in six months. |
